The Dilemma
What shall we call our country?
The Dilemma recently toured to Northland, Kirikiriroa / Hamilton, Rotorua, and Tāmaki Makarau / Auckland. We plan to tour further in 2023.
The Dilemma invites audiences to be a part of a public meeting, where cast and audience members alike take part in making decisions for others - in this case, what the name of our country should be. Like a pick-a-path book brought to life, every performance provides an opportunity for the audience to direct what happens.
In Hamilton, one audience voted to change the name of our country to "Fred"; in Kerikeri, "Aotearoa New Zealand" was the name of the day. Around the upper north, suggestions varied from the wild to the known, but the common theme was that people talked to strangers about big ideas.
“A fabulously fun night… another thought provoking HSTC piece… plenty of laughs and also much to ponder
afterwards.”
